The poster is weird. But it works. |
I love how the writers build up the tension starting from episode 1. Honestly I have to say, to fully understand the story, you have to watch it with subs to not miss any important dialogue (coz EVERY word matters). And you cannot miss a scene. You'd think the 90s flashback was just for the beginning of the series but nope. The whole series is a past-present back and forth of horrifying drama about this poor unfortunate family of 7.
The best part of the story for me begins in episode 5 where things began to unveil. You start to understand what, why, when and how and want to jump into the deepest darkest area of the story immediately.
Overall for me, Haunting of Hill House is a sad drama about this very unusual family. It plays with your emotions, causing you to roll in a ball and cry (at least I did, lol) with a little horror on the side. The jump scares are justified so you won't be all jumpy and screaming for nothing but sound effects. The actors are brilliant and the storyline is just awesome. The hype was real. Good job, writers!
